The European Parliament has approved a resolution calling on the European Commission to finance abortions in the EU and include them in public health policy.

On November 5, 2025, the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament approved a draft resolution urging the European Commission to integrate abortion into the general health policy of EU member states, Tribune chrétienne reported.

The document was adopted with 26 votes in favor and 12 against. It defines abortion as a “matter of public health” and “women’s equality.” The text calls for creating a mechanism to fund so-called cross-border abortions, allowing women from countries where the procedure is restricted – such as Poland or Malta – to obtain abortions at the expense of pan-European funds.

The authors of the resolution claim this is a step toward protecting female rights. Opponents, however, see it as an attempt to impose a “right to abortion” on Europe and to marginalize pro-life advocates. Under the guise of combating discrimination, they argue, the document in fact restricts freedom of speech and religious conviction for those who defend the sanctity of life.

The resolution also calls for enshrining a “right to abortion” in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and for strengthening measures against “anti-gender movements.” It compares funding for abortion to cancer prevention programs – a comparison that has provoked outrage among pro-life activists.

The draft will be brought before the European Parliament’s plenary session on December 2. According to Christian organizations, if adopted, it will mark yet another step toward legalizing the “right to abortion” across the European Union.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that members of the European Parliament accused the EU of promoting a “transgender ideology.”
