Met Sawa files complaint to Constantinople over OCU’s actions in Poland
The OCU accused the hierarchy of the Polish Church of showing an “anti-canonical and anti-Christian attitude” toward the “clergy” of its structure.
The Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Sawa, has submitted a complaint to the Patriarchate of Constantinople regarding the activities of the OCU in Poland. This became known from the minutes of the OCU Synod held on November 7, 2025.
According to the OCU, the complaint was reported by the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Archimandrite Vosporios.
Following the meeting chaired by Epifaniy Dumenko, a letter was drafted to Metropolitan Sawa and the Council of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church. It stated that the OCU had entered Polish territory because of “the anti-canonical and even anti-Christian attitude of the hierarchy of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church toward the clergy and faithful of the OCU who found refuge in Poland while fleeing Russian armed aggression.”
The Ecumenical Patriarchate is also to be informed of the letter’s contents.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Warsaw, OCU “hierarchs” conducted a “liturgy” in violation of the Tomos.
Recall that the OCU has repeatedly expressed discontent over what it calls the “unfriendly attitude” of the Polish Orthodox Church.
