In Russia, teen detained after shouting “Allahu Akbar” in Orthodox church
Footage circulating on social media shows a teenager wearing a headscarf shouting the Muslim phrase near the altar of an Orthodox church.
On November 3, 2025, police in Russia’s Saratov region detained a 15-year-old girl who had filmed and posted online a video of herself shouting “Allahu Akbar” inside an Orthodox church, according to the press service of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The incident occurred on November 2. In the video, widely shared on social media, the teenager, wearing a headscarf, can be seen near the altar uttering the phrase before turning to display the word Juicy printed on her sweatpants – an act that provoked outrage among believers and religious organizations.
Police quickly identified the girl and brought her to the local station together with her parent, where a preventive conversation was held. An administrative report was drawn up against her legal guardians.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The case materials have been referred to the Commission on Juvenile Affairs for further review.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Russian Orthodox Church plans to establish a supervisory body for priest-bloggers.
