MP: UOC nuns in Korets Convent wear epaulettes – unfortunately, not SBU’s
MP Solomiya Bobrovska called for the return of the Korets Convent to Ukraine.
MP Solomiya Bobrovska in her statement about the Korets Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada accused the nuns of allegedly "having epaulettes."
In her speech, the MP from the Holos (Voice) party claimed that the Korets Holy Trinity Convent is the only monastery in Ukraine that “directly reports to the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.” Bobrovska added that “the nuns wear epaulettes that are certainly not those of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), unfortunately.” She provided no evidence to support her claims.
Bobrovska also accused religious organizations occupying sites of national heritage significance of multiple violations in the use of land and buildings – including unregistered extensions and additions not recorded by regional cultural departments or the Ministry of Culture. In her view, this constitutes grounds for terminating lease agreements.
As reported by the UOJ, in October 2025, the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) identified signs of affiliation between the monastery with the ROC and ordered the cessation of its activities.
