In Volodymyr, UAH 257,000 allocated on "protection" of cathedral taken from UOC
The community of the Dormition Cathedral of the UOC is looking for a new place for worship services.
The city council of Volodymyr allocated 257 thousand hryvnias for the installation of a security and alarm system in the Dormition Cathedral, which was taken from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The corresponding decision was made at the 52nd extraordinary session of the city council.
As reported by the head of the community, Ihor Palenka, the deputies supported the allocation of funds in the form of a subvention to the Volyn regional budget for the State Historical and Cultural Reserve "Ancient Volodymyr". The money will be directed to ensure security and install an alarm system for the complex of buildings of the Dormition Cathedral.
The authorities do not specify from whom the cathedral needs protection, especially for such funds.
As reported, on October 10, the UOC was deprived of the buildings of the Dormition Cathedral and the eparchial administration of the Volodymyr-Volyn Eparchy. During the actions, security forces and activists beat the deacon of the cathedral. Later, MP Ihor Huz declared that the OCU would now "serve" in the cathedral.
The Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr is a national architectural monument of the 12th century, built in 1160 by the Volyn prince Mstislav Iziaslavich. The property complex of the monument includes the Holy Dormition Cathedral (1156), a house with a bell tower (1494), and the 17th-century walls with gates.
