Khust Eparchy commemorates locally venerated saints Sts Job and Alexius
The faithful offered prayers for peace and honored the memory of two ascetics of the Carpathian land.
The Khust Eparchy of the UOC has commemorated two locally venerated ascetics of the Carpathian land – St. Alexius of Carpatho-Russia and St. Job of Uholka. This was reported by the eparchy's press service.
On October 21, 2025, on the day of the memory of St. Alexius of Carpatho-Russia, Metropolitan Mark of Khust and Vynohradiv led the Divine Liturgy at the St. Nicholas Monastery in the village of Iza-Karputlash.
He was concelebrated by the vicar of the Khust Eparchy, Archbishop Simeon of Uholka, the vicar of the Kherson Eparchy, Bishop Benjamin of Skadovsk, and the clergy of the eparchy. During the Liturgy, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine and the defenders of Ukraine. After the service, a procession took place around the monastery church.
St. Alexius of Carpatho-Russia (1877–1947) was a renowned ascetic and confessor of the Orthodox faith, founder of several monasteries in Transcarpathia. His incorrupt relics were uncovered on March 12, 1999, and on November 21, 2001, he was glorified among the saints. Numerous cases of help and healings through prayers to the venerable are known.
The next day, October 22, a festive liturgy was held in the village of Mala Uholka to commemorate St. Job of Uholka. The service was led by Metropolitan Mark, concelebrated by Archbishop Simeon of Uholka, Bishop Benjamin of Skadovsk, Bishop Mark of Rakhiv, and the clergy of the eparchy.
During the service, prayers were also offered for peace and for the soldiers defending Ukraine. After the liturgy, the faithful participated in a procession and venerated the relics of the holy ascetic.
St. Job of Uholka (1902–1985) was born in the village of Iza and dedicated his life to serving God from a young age. For his humility and prayerful feat, he received the gift of foresight and healing. On September 18, 2008, he was glorified as a locally venerated saint in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
As reported by the UOJ, on September 18, 2025, on the day of the glorification of St. Job of Uholka, Metropolitan Mark conducted a service in the village of Mala Uholka in Transcarpathia, where he performed his feat and where his relics now rest.
