In Rome, Mel Gibson begins filming "The Resurrection of Christ"

The director completely renewed the entire main cast.
In Rome, at the Cinecittà studio, filming of the movie "The Resurrection of Christ" began last week. Mel Gibson decided to shoot a sequel to "The Passion of the Christ," which was released in 2004, reports the Telegram channel 7x70.
More than 20 years ago, Gibson filmed "The Passion of the Christ" at the same Cinecittà studio. However, he has now completely renewed the main cast.
Gibson chose Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen (“The Last Kingdom”) for the role of Jesus Christ. Ohtonen will replace Jim Caviezel, who played the lead role in “The Passion of the Christ.”
The film became one of the highest-grossing independent projects in history, earning $610 million worldwide. “The Resurrection of Christ” will consist of two films, with both parts set to be released in 2027.
As reported by the UOJ, it was previously assumed that the key cast would be retained in the new film.
