On the morning of Sunday, October 5, 2025, the Greek-Sophia Church of the UOC, a national architectural monument in Kherson, came under shelling, reports the press service of the Kherson Eparchy.

At that time, the Divine Liturgy was being conducted in the church.

One of the shells hit the fence, resulting in damage to the fence and broken windows.

There are no casualties among the parishioners.

The Greek-Sophia Church is the oldest church in Kherson, built in 1780, making it one of the oldest structures in the city. The church is consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos. The shrine is a national architectural monument.

Earlier, as a result of shelling, the cells in the Greek-Sophia Church were completely burned.
