Pat Porfirije сonsecrates Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Slovenia
The consecration of the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Enlighteners of the Slavs, became a symbol of unity among Orthodox peoples and the continuity of their faith.
On October 5, 2025, in the Slovenian city of Maribor, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia solemnly consecrated a new church dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius. The event was reported by Orthodoxia News Agency.
Following the consecration, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church presided over the first Divine Liturgy, concelebrated by hierarchs and clergy of the Patriarchate.
In his address, Patriarch Porfirije highlighted the spiritual significance of the event and emphasized that the foundation of Christian life is love directed toward one’s neighbor. “For Christians, the only true and just law is the law of Christ – the law of truth, righteousness, and love – which must serve as the measure for all human rules and laws,” said the Patriarch.
The church dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius was built to commemorate the spiritual and cultural contribution of the two brother-enlighteners who brought Christianity to the Slavic peoples of Central and Southern Europe, including the lands of present-day Slovenia. The consecration of the church thus became a symbol of the unity of Orthodox nations and the continuity of their Christian heritage.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Serbia, 15,000 believers venerated the Kursk Icon of the Mother of God.
