In Boston, ancient church to be converted into affordable housing complex
The vacant Church of the Holy Communion will become a modern residential complex with apartments for families with varying income levels.
In Boston (USA), the historic 112-year-old Church of the Holy Communion, which has been vacant for over 20 years, is planned to be transformed into a residential complex with 55 affordable housing units for residents with low and moderate incomes. This is reported by UNN with reference to Realtor.com.
It is noted that the project includes preserving the exterior and facade of the building, as well as creating a public space for 200 people for events, cultural programs, and performances dedicated to Afro-Latin art and culture.
The complex will have 17 studios, 25 one-bedroom, and 13 two-bedroom apartments; six units are designated for previously homeless individuals.
The redevelopment "adds critically needed affordable and mixed-income housing to the neighborhood while honoring the church’s historic architecture," said Boston Mayor Michelle Wu in a statement. As part of a broader mayoral initiative, 802 units of affordable housing are planned to be created.
As reported by the UOJ, in Ireland, the former Wexford County Jail is being transformed into a church.
