Wonderworking Zymne Icon of the Mother of God honored in Volyn
The outdoor Divine Liturgy by the monastery’s cathedral was led by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Pochaiv, abbot of the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra.
On September 24, 2025, the Holy Dormition Zymne Monastery in Volyn hosted celebrations in honor of the wonderworking Zymne Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Khmelnytskyi Eparchy reported.
The outdoor Divine Liturgy by the monastery’s cathedral was led by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Pochaiv, abbot of the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra. Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Viktor of Khmelnytskyi and Starokostiantyniv, Metropolitan Volodymyr of Volodymyr-Volynskyi and Kovel, Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych, Metropolitan Nafanail of Volyn and Lutsk, Bishop Pimen of Ostroh, along with the monastery clergy and visiting priests.
Participating in prayer were the abbess of the monastery, Mother Superior Stefana (Bandura), with her sisters, abbesses of other monasteries, and numerous faithful. The choir of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, directed by Hieromonk Ioasaf (Myronov), performed the liturgical chants.
During the fervent litany, special prayers were offered for Ukraine’s defending soldiers and for all who suffer and have been afflicted by the war. Metropolitan Volodymyr of Pochaiv delivered the sermon to those gathered.
After the procession around the church, Abbess Stefana thanked the hierarchs and clergy for their prayers and congratulated the faithful on the feast.
The history of the Zymne Icon dates back to the time of Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr. According to tradition, Princess Anna brought the holy image from Korsun in 988, and during his baptism the prince was healed of blindness by the radiance of this icon. Since then, the icon has remained in the Zymne Monastery, becoming one of Volyn’s greatest sacred treasures.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Bukovyna a procession was held in honor of the wonderworking Boyany Icon.
