In Cherkasy region, 3 churches previously seized for OCU are state-owned
The Prosecutor's Office demanded through the court to formalize the ownership rights to the Transfiguration Church, the Dormition Church, and the Rotunda Church of Alexandra in the Cherkasy region.
The Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office returned three churches to state ownership, which belonged to religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and were seized by supporters of the OCU in 2024. This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office press service.
It is noted that the Smila District Prosecutor's Office established that the state ownership rights for a number of religious buildings, which are national architectural monuments, were not registered.
"In response to the unlawful inaction of the authorized body, the prosecutor filed lawsuits in court to oblige the Cherkasy Regional State Administration to take measures to formalize the state ownership rights to national architectural monuments — the Transfiguration Church of 1738 in the village of Kornylivka, the Dormition Church of 1851 in the village of Zhabotнn, and the Rotunda Church of Alexandra of 1843 in the village of Lebedшvka, Cherkasy region," the statement says.
All the churches mentioned in the prosecutor's report previously belonged to the religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and were seized by OCU supporters in 2024. A significant part of churches, after being seized by OCU raiders, are not used for their intended purpose.
As reported by the UOJ, in Cherkasy, electricity was cut off at the episcopal metochion of the UOC due to OCU's debts.
