Patriarch Bartholomew arrives in the United States
The head of the Church of Constantinople will spend 12 days in the U.S., meet with Trump, and receive the Templeton Prize for his environmental efforts.
On September 14, 2025, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Washington, marking his eighth visit to the United States. He was officially welcomed at the airport by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and representatives of the Greek Orthodox community.
The visit is timed to the presentation of the Templeton Prize for the defense of nature, which will be awarded on September 24 in New York.
During his 12-day stay, the Patriarch will visit Washington, New York, and Southampton. His program includes a meeting with President Donald Trump, as well as participation in luncheons hosted by House Speaker Michael Johnson and other officials.
Also planned are meetings with the ambassadors of Turkey and Greece to the U.S., and a visit to Arlington National Cemetery, where he will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Patriarch Bartholomew had met with Latvian leaders to discuss restoring ties between the Latvian Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
