Kharkiv Prosecutor's Office attempting to sue UOC for Krasnokutsk church
Prosecutors claim that the Orthodox shrine, expropriated by the Soviet authorities, was returned to the believers illegally.
The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office decided to take away the Archangel Michael Church in the village of Krasnokutsk from the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. As reported by the Telegram channel «Dozor», prosecutors filed a lawsuit to declare the decision of the Krasnokutsk village council of 2005 illegal, according to which the shrine was transferred to the religious community.
St. Michael's Church was built at the end of the 19th century. During the Soviet period, the church building was nationalized and registered as state property, later it was granted the status of an architectural monument.
In 2005, the executive committee of the Krasnokutsk village council decided to transfer the church for use by the UOC community.
20 years later, the Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit demanding the return of the church to state ownership.
As reported by the UOJ, a car pride parade took place in Kharkiv.
