The head of the UGCC assured that Parubiy’s actions played a key role during Euromaidan.

UGCC head Sviatoslav Shevchuk has reacted to the killing of former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy, a Uniate, calling it “a brazen crime aimed against the Ukrainian people and our statehood.”

Shevchuk extolled Parubiy as “a true patriot” who, in his words, played a pivotal role in Ukraine’s public and political life. With special emphasis, the UGCC primate singled out Parubiy’s role in Euromaidan, presenting him as an exemplar of “service to Ukraine and self-sacrifice.”

“The crime must be fully and objectively investigated, and those responsible brought to account,” Shevchuk declared, urging that justice be swift. He also assured the faithful that the Uniates “pray the Lord to welcome him into His heavenly abodes.”

The UOJ previously reported that Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople had decorated the Uniate Parubiy with the Cross of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
