Calls to label ROC TV channel an “agent of foreign influence” in Russia

Russia’s Communist Party is outraged over the Mummy film.
The Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) has called for the Moscow Patriarchate’s TV channel Spas to be designated a “foreign agent” over its broadcast of the film Mummy. This was announced by Anatoly Lokot, First Secretary of the Novosibirsk Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), according to RBC.
"This political provocation, the screening of the cinematic abomination ‘Mummy’, shows that we first need to sort things out at home. We need to restore order in Russia regarding our historical memory. ‘Mummy’ is not just an attack on the party – it is a stab in Russia’s back, a blow to Russia’s future," Lokot said.
The film also drew sharp criticism from State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina (CPRF), who called Mummy “a direct attempt to destroy the unity of Russia’s patriots.”
The film itself explores the sacralization of Lenin, whose body was embalmed and placed in a mausoleum on Red Square after his death. According to the Spas channel’s description, “The film seeks to answer the question: why was it necessary to deify someone who was himself a militant atheist, and what should we do with this legacy and with the mausoleum now?”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) had announced charges against Boris Korchevnikov, editor-in-chief of the ROC’s Spas TV channel.
