Lutsk mayor urges to demolish newly built UOC church at сity сouncil meeting

Local activists demand that the authorities demolish the church, citing alleged formal violations.
On May 28, 2025, during a session of the Lutsk City Council, Mykhailo Nakhod, a representative of the civic movement “SVIDOMI,” called on Mayor Ihor Polishchuk to initiate a legal case for the demolition of a newly constructed church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), consecrated in honor of the Apostle John the Theologian. This was reported by Konkurent.
According to Nakhod, the church was built on land officially designated for private residential construction. He claims this constitutes legal grounds for demolition.
“I demand, Ihor Ihorevych, that you issue an order to conduct an inspection of this illegal construction, and that the legal department promptly file a lawsuit to eliminate this violation of the law and demolish the religious structure!” Nakhod told the mayor.
Mayor Ihor Polishchuk did not issue any directives or comment on the matter.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Metropolitan of Volyn had consecrated the newly built Church of St. John the Theologian in Lutsk.
