Russian Orthodox priest killed in Ukraine while fighting as a volunteer

An ROC priest serving as a Russian soldier was killed by a drone.
On May 7, 2025, Russian Orthodox priest Sergiy Vaida was killed in Ukraine, where he had gone to the front voluntarily, taking up arms. This was reported by the Telegram channel Christians Against War, citing the VK page Synodik.
Vaida was reportedly the rector of the Dormition Church in the hamlet of Gaverdovsky, under the Maykop and Adyghe Eparchy. Previously, he served as rector of the Church of the Prophet Elijah in the village of Nezamaevskaya.
The priest left behind 11 children. He died as a result of a strike from a Ukrainian drone.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the ROC had announced the death in Ukraine of a “warrior-monk.”
