Patriarch Ilia II recalled the feat of victory and called for peace for the sake of future generations.

Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia delivered a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of victory over fascism. In his address, the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church emphasized the special significance of this date and called for remembering the need to maintain peace.

“This day encompasses and unites countless examples of extraordinary heroism and resilience displayed by many during the Second World War. It was this selflessness and, of course, God’s help that led to the victory of the united forces over evil,” noted the Patriarch.

In his message, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II recalled the heavy price of victory – destroyed cities and churches, as well as 61 million dead, among whom more than 300 thousand were natives of Georgia.

He emphasized that peace was established after World War II, and relations and friendship between countries reached a new level: "To ensure peace, the European Union was also created, the foundations of which were laid today, in 1950. We congratulate the Member States and candidate countries of the European Union on the anniversary of the union, and we congratulate everyone, especially veterans, on Victory Day".

“May God bless Georgia and the entire world,” concluded the Catholicos-Patriarch, quoting the words from the Epistle to the Romans: “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” (Romans 14:19).

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Patriarch of Georgia urged Trump to defend traditional Christian values.
