Relics of two newly canonized saints discovered in the Romanian Church
The relics of Saints Paisie and Cleopa were exhumed at Sihăstria Monastery.
The relics of two recently canonized saints – Paisie and Cleopa – have been discovered at Sihăstria Monastery in Romania, reports Basilica.
The special exhumation was carried out by Bishop Veniamin of South Bessarabia and Bishop Assistant Nichifor of Botoșani from the Archdiocese of Iași.
At the conclusion of the service, the holy relics were carried in a procession and placed in the main church of the Sihăstria Monastery.
The local proclamation of their canonization is scheduled for August 7 during a solemn ceremony.
The year 2025 has been declared by the Romanian Patriarchate as the jubilee year marking the centennial of the Patriarchate and the Year of Remembrance of Romanian Orthodox Spiritual Fathers and Confessors of the 20th Century – an important milestone in the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
Saints Paisie Olaru and Cleopa Ilie were canonized by the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church in July 2024, with their feast day set for December 2.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Romanian Church is celebrating the centenary of its Patriarchate.
