UOC church rector in Cherkasy Eparchy: Christians are the salt of the earth
For nine months, Orthodox believers in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi have been praying outside the Holy Mandylion Church, which was seized by OCU adherents.
On March 1, 2025, Archpriest Ioann Nalapko, the rector of the Holy Mandylion Church of the UOC in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi, Cherkasy region, emphasized in his sermon the importance of steadfastness in faith and prayer.
He reminded the faithful that Christians are the "salt of the earth" and that the enemy of mankind always seeks to silence their prayers.
For nine months now, Orthodox believers in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi have been gathering for prayers outside the Church of the Holy Mandylion, which was seized by the OCU. Despite harsh weather conditions, threats, and pressure, the UOC community continues to gather for worship under the open sky every week.
"It does not matter whether we are welcomed or hated. We must understand that we are Christians, and our prayer is not just for ourselves. We pray for the glory of God because the Lord strengthens us. We pray for our people, for our country. Therefore, strive to remain in this spirit," said the priest.
It will be reminded that the Church of the Holy Mandylion in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi was seized by the OCU. Following this, the UOC community, which had built the church's religious life over many years, was compelled to conduct worship services outdoors. Despite these challenges, the faithful continue to gather every week as well as on major church feast days.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the parishioners of the seized cathedral in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi continue to pray near the church despite pressure from OCU activists.
