Security alarm systems have been installed in the Assumption Cathedral by the police.
On February 14, the Shevchenko National Reserve, with the help of the enforcement service and the police, gained access to the Assumption Cathedral in Kaniv, Cherkasy region. This was reported on Facebook by Valentyna Kovalenko, former head of the Shevchenko National Reserve.
“Finally, the UOC-MP has lammed from the Assumption Cathedral,” the official stated.
According to her, by the evening, security alarm systems had been installed in the Orthodox shrine.
As previously reported by the UOJ, in December 2024, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine officially announced the completion of the process of returning the Assumption (St. George’s) Cathedral in Kaniv to state ownership.
Earlier, in August 2024, the Assumption religious community in Kaniv confirmed its allegiance to the UOC. Protocols of the meeting, reflecting the will of the believers, were submitted to the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration.
