Carlson: Zelensky is a dictator because he banned a religious denomination
The American journalist noted that the actions of the President of Ukraine bear signs of dictatorship.
American journalist and public figure Tucker Carlson, in a conversation with British writer and journalist Piers Morgan, stated that he sees signs of dictatorship in Zelensky’s actions because he had banned a religious denomination. The video was published on Carlson’s official YouTube channel.
Carlson did not specify which denomination he was referring to, but he has previously made several reports and statements about the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) by the authorities.
As the UOJ reported, in December 2022, while still working at Fox News, Carlson stated that "there is absolutely no justification for this at all. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not Russian; it is Ukrainian." Later, he slammed Zelensky as someone who raids monasteries and churches and arrests priests.
In July 2023, during a conversation with former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Carlson again pointed out that Zelensky was persecuting UOC clergy and believers and had, in effect, banned the Church. He later labeled the authorities' actions against monasteries and priests barbaric.
In September 2023, Tucker Carlson once again accused Ukrainian authorities of persecuting UOC Christians.
In a conversation with UOC lawyer Robert Amsterdam, Carlson stated that the Ukrainian government had banned an entire Christian denomination, yet almost no one in the U.S. said a word about it.
In April 2024, Carlson remarked that "Zelensky's government is busy throwing Orthodox priests and nuns into jails, and also sending the army to raid churches."
