The Pope called for an end to airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.

During a Sunday meeting with pilgrims, Pope Francis urged an end to the shelling of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, highlighting the particular threat posed by the approaching winter. He also entrusted Ukraine to the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and called for a cessation of hostilities on all fronts in the Middle East.

As reported by Vatican News, the Pope mentioned "martyred Ukraine" twice after the Angelus prayer on October 13, 2024. Speaking from the window of the Apostolic Palace, he expressed sorrow over the events in the Middle East and urged an end to airstrikes on Ukrainian civilians, emphasizing: "Stop killing the innocent!"

Earlier, Pope Francis met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, where they discussed the religious situation in Ukraine.
