Israel objects to the Vatican calling Gaza operation as "carnage"
Israel has called Vatican Secretary of State Parolin's remarks "regrettable".
On February 14, 2024, Israel formally complained to the Vatican after Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin had called the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip as "carnage", APnews reported.
The Israeli Embassy to the Holy See called Parolin's comments "regrettable". According to the Israelis, Parolin failed to consider what it called the relevant facts in judging the legitimacy of Israel’s actions.
The previous day, Parolin had condemned Hamas's 7 October attack on Israel and all forms of anti-Semitism. At the same time, he questioned Israel’s claim to be acting in self-defense by inflicting “carnage” on Gaza.
“Israel’s right to self-defense has been invoked to justify that this operation is proportional, but with 30,000 dead, it’s not,” he said.
The UOJ previously wrote that Israel is bombing Gaza with an AI "Gospel" system.
