The head of the Phanar said he would like to personally attend the ordination of a new Catholic bishop.

On 26 November 2023, Patriarch Bartholomew said that ties between the Roman Catholic Church and the Patriarchate of Constantinople are rooted in a common foundation of faith, reports orthodoxianewsagency.gr.

The head of the Phanar received a group of Catholic hierarchs and clergy from Italy, Greece and Turkey. Their visit, he said, is "a gesture that touches us deeply because it is further proof of the strong ties that exist between our respected traditions."

He revealed that he would like to personally attend the ordination of the new Catholic bishop.

"We believe in being together, especially in times that require unity and understanding, such as this troubled time. It is our firm belief that the ties between our Churches, rooted in the common foundation of faith, serve as a beacon of hope for a world that desires peace and harmony," Pat. Bartholomew said.

As reported, the head of the Phanar again spoke about the need for Eucharistic unity with the Roman Catholic Church.
