Armenia will ask Pope to open the archives on the Armenian genocide
Armenia, during the visit of Pope Francis to this country, appealed to the Vatican with a request to gain access to the archives on the Armenian genocide, reports Interfax.
Director of the National Archive of Armenia Amatuni Virabyan (in the photo) said that during the visit of Pope Francis Armenia will raise the question of the study of materials on the Armenian genocide, contained in the archives of the Vatican.
"The Vatican archives contain a huge amount of records that are not yet examined and disclosed, which can contain a lot of information about the Armenian genocide. Not all such requests receive a positive response, but we hope to get permission," said the director of the archive.
According to him, permission to study the Vatican’s archives can be granted only by the Pope and Armenia intends to make such a request.
