In the Italian municipality of Forio, unknown individuals have desecrated a roadside statue of the Virgin Mary. The perpetrators severed the head of the Madonna della Pelara statue in the village of Panza, committing this act of sacrilege on the island of Ischia for the third time. This was reported by NapoliToday.
The residents of Panza expressed deep grief and outrage over the repeated desecration of the Christian shrine. The local community organization "Pro Loco" published a statement on social media, describing the incident as an open rejection of religious imagery.
Representatives of the organization emphasized that this incident cannot be considered an accident or an ordinary act of hooliganism. In the opinion of the activists, there is a person living in the community who fundamentally rejects traditional Christian symbols. The organization announced plans to repair the damaged statue in the near future.
As the SPJ reported, the Lviv police opened a case against a man for desecrating a statue of the Mother of God.
