The head of the Office of the President attended the OCU celebration at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra on the occasion of the 975th anniversary of the monastery's founding.

Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov took part in a ceremonial OCU “service” at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and spoke of the special spiritual status of the Ukrainian people.

Speaking to journalists, Budanov noted that “everyone is now praying for Ukraine, for the president, simply for Ukraine and for our people” at the monastery.

The head of the Presidential Office also emphasized what he described as the God-chosen status of Ukrainians.

“Ukraine is a God-chosen people, and among the Slavs it is certainly the God-chosen one,” Budanov said.

According to him, as long as the Lavra stands – which he called the largest Orthodox shrine in the world – Ukraine will stand as well.

Budanov also stated that Orthodoxy came to the Slavic peoples from Kyiv and that no one would ever be able to change that.

As the UOJ reported, the OCU arranged a visit to the Lavra by monks from the Athonite New Esphigmenou Monastery.
