Passed away to the Lord the abbot of the monastery on Mount Tabor

The Jerusalem Patriarchate has announced the death of a clergyman who had been performing pastoral ministry at one of the principal monasteries of the Holy Land.

On June 18, 2026, the Jerusalem Orthodox Church lost Archimandrite Hilarion (Gramenos), who had led the community at the site of the biblical Transfiguration for many years. This was reported by the press service of the Jerusalem Patriarchate.

Archimandrite Hilarion reposed in the Lord on Thursday afternoon. The departed had for many years zealously fulfilled various obediences as a member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, but the central work of his life was the restoration of the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

It was through the labors of Father Hilarion that the historic complex on the mountaintop acquired its present splendid appearance.

The funeral service for the reposed abbot will be held on June 19 at 12:00 in the Cathedral of the Transfiguration. The burial will be presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem.

As the UOJ reported, one of the most senior clergymen of the UOC has reposed in the Lord.
