LGBT rally held under police protection in central Lviv
In the center of Lviv, LGBT community supporters held a public imitation of a "wedding ceremony" and demanded that authorities legalize same-sex unions.
On June 7, 2026, on the square in front of the Opera Theater, representatives of the LGBT community organized an event called "LvivPride," during which they staged a "wedding" ceremony and demanded a radical revision of the Civil Code provisions. This was reported by "Suspilne.Lviv."
The participants of the action came to the city center with banners reading "Meaning in Love" and chanted slogans about protecting their rights. According to organizers from the "Feminist Workshop," this year the event was called "For Real Traditions," attempting to present LGBT ideology as an integral part of Ukrainian history and society.
The central event of the action was the imitation of the "first Galician lesbian wedding," which was conducted right on the square. Activists also put forward a number of political demands, including the withdrawal of the new edition of the Civil Code, legal recognition of same-sex families, and strengthening responsibility for "hate crimes."
Parallel to the LGBT action, Lviv residents gathered nearby in defense of traditional values. Opponents of the event brought banners reading "I am for traditional family" and "Traditional family - strong state," reminding about the constitutional foundations of the country and chanted "Death three times to enemies of the Ukrainian nation."
As SPJ reported, a parliament member called on the mayor to cancel the gay parade in Lviv.
