In Kyiv, authorities demanded the demolition of a UOC church
Capital officials demanded that the Transfiguration community independently demolish the church building.
In Kyiv, a notice of impending destruction has appeared on the building of the Holy Transfiguration Church of the UOC on Avtozavodskaya Street. This is reported by the Telegram channel "Dozor".
City authorities have demanded that the rector, Archpriest Alexander Prochenko, and parishioners personally dismantle the sanctuary by June 9. In case of refusal, officials have promised to demolish it forcibly.
This church is located in a square on the territory of a former tuberculosis dispensary and has been operating since 2012. At the time, the community reached an agreement with the management of the medical institution regarding the functioning of the church on this site.
In March 2018, there was already an attempt to destroy the sanctuary - then a group of unknown individuals broke windows and set fire to the building using an incendiary mixture. However, through the efforts of the rector and parishioners, the church was successfully restored. Now the church faces danger once again. The believers of the community ask for prayer support.
As reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists, the issue of demolishing UOC churches in Kyiv has been included in the agenda of the Kyiv City Council.
