As a result of shelling, a UOC church in Yunakovka, Sumy region, was destroyed
In the frontline Sumy region, the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God has been destroyed.
As a result of Russian shelling, the UOC Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Yunakovka in Sumy region has been virtually destroyed. The church, built in 1806, was a monument of national significance and an example of early classicism architecture. This is reported by kordon.media website.
The brick building, decorated with columns, was depicted on the coat of arms of Sumy district, approved in 2001. Previously, the church was the center of the village's spiritual life.
According to architect Igor Titarenko, the monument survived revolutions, the First and Second World Wars. Before the beginning of the full-scale invasion, services were held in the basement part of the building — the so-called winter church, while the building itself was under restoration.
As SPJ reported, in Kherson, the Greek-Sophia Church of the UOC was damaged due to shelling.
