Constantinople’s American hierarch hospitalized in Thessaloniki
Archbishop Elpidophoros was taken away by ambulance directly from the Liturgy.
On May 31, 2026, during the Pentecost service at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Thessaloniki, Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis) of America fell ill. This was reported by UOJ in Greece.
An ambulance from the National Center for Emergency Medical Care of Greece immediately arrived at the scene. The Archbishop was hospitalized at the 424th General Military Hospital of Thessaloniki, escorted by a Greek police patrol car.
As of the time of publication, neither the hospital nor the press service of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America had provided any official information about the hierarch’s condition.
As the UOJ reported, Archbishop Elpidophoros wrote in a letter to Patriarch Bartholomew that the Ukrainian authorities are unable to convince the world of the correctness of their measures against the UOC.
