A cleric of Romania’s Putna Monastery presided over the Divine Liturgy for the patronal feast of the St. George parish in Storozhynets.

Clergy of the Romanian Orthodox Church took part in the patronal feast celebrations of the parish dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer in Storozhynets on May 6, 2026. This was reported on Facebook by the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy of the UOC.

The Divine Liturgy was led by Archimandrite Theophil, steward of Romania’s Putna Monastery. Concelebrating with him were the rector of the church and dean of the Storozhynets District, Mitred Archpriest Vasyl Kovalchuk, along with clergy of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy. During the Liturgy, prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, for deliverance from the enemy, and for the strengthening of those who have fallen into despair and lost their homes.

Following the service, a procession took place around the church with Gospel readings and the sprinkling of holy water. Archimandrite Theophil addressed the clergy and faithful with greetings and delivered a sermon. At the conclusion of the celebrations, Archpriest Vasyl Kovalchuk thanked everyone gathered for their shared conciliar prayer.

As previously reported by the UOJ, humanitarian aid from the Romanian Church was delivered to the Kharkiv Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). The Storozhynets Deanery is part of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy of the UOC. Putna Monastery is one of Romania’s most revered Orthodox monasteries, founded in the 15th century by the Moldavian ruler Stephen the Great.
