Thirteen Argentinians embrace Orthodoxy in Serbian church in Buenos Aires
In the Serbian Orthodox cathedral in Buenos Aires, thirteen Argentinians were baptized during the Paschal season and received Holy Communion for the first time after completing catechetical instruction.
On April 12, 2026, the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Buenos Aires witnessed the Baptism of thirteen new members of the Church – residents of Argentina, Orthodoxia News Agency reports.
The celebrations took place on the feast of Pascha. The Divine Liturgy was served by Archpriest Stefan Jovanović and Hieromonk David (Janketić), with the participation of clergy, representatives of the Serbian embassy, and numerous faithful gathered for the festal service.
The day before, on April 11, Holy Saturday, ten adults and three children were baptized in the cathedral – all of them Argentinians. After their Baptism, the newly illumined received Holy Communion for the first time on Pascha together with the parish community.
As noted in the report, the newly baptized had spent several months preparing through catechetical courses at the cathedral. After the sacrament was celebrated, Archpriest Stefan Jovanović emphasized that this event was a great joy for the entire Church and a fulfillment of Christ’s commandment to preach to all nations.
A special feature of the celebration was that the service was held for the first time in a church adorned with new frescoes, completed in March 2026. During the service, greetings from Bishop Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South and Central America were delivered, and the Paschal message of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije was read aloud.
After the worship, a festive meal was held in the cathedral hall, where parishioners exchanged Paschal greetings and thanked the benefactors who support the life of the Serbian community in Buenos Aires.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Kosovo, two U.S. servicemen were baptized in the Serbian Orthodox Church.
