UOC Social Department delivers 1,500 Easter cakes to displaced families
Archbishop Sylvester blessed 1,500 Easter cakes for displaced families and conveyed the Primate’s blessing.
On April 11, a traditional Easter charity drive, “An Easter Gift,” was held in Kyiv on the grounds of the Church of the Holy Resurrection dedicated to the memory of those killed and of Afghan war veterans. This was reported by the UOC Information Center.
The Synodal Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for Social and Humanitarian Affairs, together with the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, delivered 1,500 Easter cakes to families of internally displaced persons. The gifts were purchased with the support of benefactors and the Peace Be Unto You foundation of the Primate of the UOC.
Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorod, rector of the Kyiv theological schools, blessed the Easter cakes and conveyed greetings to the faithful from His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy. “We congratulate everyone on the Pascha of Christ!” Archbishop Sylvester said. “We are handing over these Easter cakes with the blessing of our Primate, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, with wishes for a festive spirit and peace. Christ is Risen!”
Archpriest Serhiy Ekshiyan, head of the UOC’s Social and Humanitarian Department, thanked everyone involved in gathering the aid. “We wish to express our gratitude to all who joined in this good work,” said Archpriest Serhiy. “From ancient times, believing people have honored Christ’s Resurrection through works of mercy. We wish that Paschal joy may live in hearts and in every family, and that the Lord may protect and grant peace to the Ukrainian land.”
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Favor Foundation had delivered more than 1,000 Easter cakes to frontline cities.
