Shell hits UOC church in Kherson, rector’s wife injured

As a result of shelling, a side chapel was destroyed and the church dome was damaged at the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kherson. There are also injured.

On April 3, 2026, during a massive shelling attack on Kherson by Russian forces, the Greek-Sophia Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos was damaged. This was reported by the UOC Information Department, citing the press service of the Kherson Eparchy.

One of the shells struck the roof of the church directly. The explosion destroyed the side chapel dedicated to Saints Constantine and Helen, damaged the central dome, and also affected the iconostasis of the main altar.

In addition, the wife of the church’s rector, Archpriest Vitalii Malanii – Anna Mykhailivna – was injured. She suffered blast trauma, a concussion, and a head injury.

As the UOJ previously reported, the UOC St. Nicholas Protection Cathedral in Druzhkivka was damaged by shelling.
