LGBT activists criticize Harry Potter series due to Rowling
Trans activists criticized the project due to J.K. Rowling's position on gender issues.
LGBT activists criticized the release of the teaser for the new screen adaptation of the young wizard books from HBO. This was reported by LifeSiteNews.
The American media holding company presented the first trailer for the series, which is intended to be a reboot of the franchise. However, the announcement sparked a new wave of negativity toward writer J.K. Rowling. Critics accused the author of financing legislation that restricts transgender rights and called for a boycott of the project. Zoe Rose Bryant, a journalist and transgender activist, claimed that continued support of the franchise allegedly puts the lives of trans women at risk.
At the same time, LGBT activists' attempts to initiate a boycott of the Harry Potter series proved unsuccessful: the trailer garnered over 277 million views.
As the UOJ reported, J.K. Rowling called the idea that men can become women absurd. The writer has repeatedly emphasized that she advocates for protecting the rights of biological women and spaces, which provokes aggression from radical activists.
