U.S. State Dept. head expresses condolences to UOC-KP over Filaret's death
Marco Rubio called the life and "steadfast service" of the deceased a factor that defined Ukraine's spiritual identity.
The U.S. State Department has responded to the death of the head of the UOC-KP, Filaret Denysenko. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that America "mourns the loss of His Holiness Patriarch Filaret" and extends condolences to all believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox community.
According to the State Department head, the deceased's life was "steadfast service" that shaped the country's identity during the most important moments in history. Marco Rubio is confident that Denysenko's legacy will continue to live on in Ukraine's religious and national life.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the UOC-KP announced the election of a new "patriarch" to replace Filaret.
