The Romanian Orthodox Church has stated the need for urgent solutions to restore peace and called for prayer for those in the world's military conflict zones.

The Romanian Patriarchate issued a statement in connection with the escalation of military conflict in the Middle East, as well as on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Ukraine. This was reported by the Patriarchate's press service on March 2, 2026.

"In the context of the escalation of the military conflict in the Middle East , which has already resulted in numerous victims, as well as the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Romanian Patriarchate appeals for prayer and responsibility, in order to identify rapid solutions for the restoration of peace and good understanding between peoples," the statement says.

The Patriarchate emphasized that the devastating consequences of the war are reflected in the alarming increase in the number of civilian casualties, the amplification of violence and social unrest, and the spread of poverty and hunger.

The text quotes the words of the Apostle Paul: “Live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Cor. 13:11). The statement notes that where war is present, love and peace are forgotten, and communication and communion between people are seriously affected.

The Romanian Patriarchate also called for prayers for all Romanian citizens located in conflict zones.

As the UOJ wrote, in Jerusalem the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was closed due to security threats.
