Serbian Church reports cyberattacks and anti-church media campaign
The Serbian Patriarchate said it is facing digital attacks and information pressure from a number of media outlets.
The Serbian Orthodox Church reported a series of cyberattacks and a coordinated anti-church campaign targeting its official media resources and the head of the Church. The corresponding statement was published on the Church’s official website, UOJ Serbia reports.
According to the statement, since the beginning of the year – and especially during the celebrations of the feast day of St. Sava, the first Archbishop of Serbia – the Church’s specialists have recorded a number of carefully organized and technically sophisticated attacks on the digital and informational platforms of the Serbian Patriarchate.
The statement emphasizes that these cyberattacks coincided in time with an active anti-church campaign which, in the Church’s assessment, is being waged through certain print and online media outlets.
Despite what is happening, the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church continues operating as normal, following its previously approved media strategy and ensuring access to official, verified information about the life of the Church.
In this regard, the Serbian Orthodox Church called on the faithful and representatives of the media to rely exclusively on trustworthy, official sources of information, stressing the importance of a responsible approach to the messages being circulated.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Serbian Church transferred relics of the Jasenovac New Martyrs to Croatia.
