In Ireland, anti-transgender teacher arrested for fifth time
A teacher in Ireland who criticized transgender ideology as contradicting his religious beliefs has been arrested again.
On January 19, 2026, in Ireland, police arrested teacher Enoch Burke for the fifth time, known for his criticism of transgender ideology, after which the court ruled to send him back to prison, reports The Irish Sun.
Burke was detained near Wilson's Hospital School in County Westmeath, where he came after his recent release from Mountjoy Prison. The court viewed his appearance on school grounds as a violation of a previously issued ban.
The teacher was found in contempt of court for refusing to comply with the ruling prohibiting him from visiting the school. The conflict arose from his disagreement with the school administration's requirement to address a student using their chosen name and pronouns, which Burke publicly called contrary to his religious beliefs.
Burke was previously temporarily released to prepare for an appeal regarding his dismissal. One of the conditions was the requirement not to visit the school, however he continued to come there, insisting on his right to work.
According to media reports, for non-compliance with court decisions, Burke has already been fined more than 225 thousand euros, and the total term of imprisonment assigned to him amounted to 550 days.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Poland excluded the words "man" and "woman" from marriage documents.
