Rector of persecuted UOC parish in Bukovynian village Hlyboka passes away
Archpriest Dimitry Dumitrovych has reposed in the Lord.
On the night of January 6, 2026, mitred Archpriest Dimitriy Dumitrovych, a cleric of the persecuted parish of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Hlyboka, Chernivtsi Eparchy of the UOC, departed to the Lord, as reported by the faithful of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.
Father Dimitriy was a pastor of the persecuted community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which in recent years has been subjected to pressure and attempts of forcible "transfer" to the OCU.
The faithful express sincere condolences to the family of the newly reposed pastor and call everyone to pray for the repose of his soul.
It is reported that Father Dimitriy's wife is left with three minor children. A fundraising campaign has been opened to help the priest's family.
The farewell to Archpriest Dimitriy will take place on January 6 at 16:00 at the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Storozhynets.
On January 7, around 12:00, the body will be delivered to the village of Hlybokaya, to the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos.
On January 8 at 8:00, a memorial hierarchical Liturgy and funeral service will be held there.
The burial will be conducted in the town of Storozhynets at the cemetery near the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
As reported by the UOJ, on February 17, 2025, the religious community of the UOC Protection Church in Hlyboka appealed to the Vice President of the USA, James David Vance, for the protection of religious rights. The faithful stated about the illegal "transfer" of the church to the OCU, conducted without the participation and consent of thousands of parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
