Monastic tonsure performed at Brailiv Women’s Monastery
Metropolitan Varsonofiy of Vinnytsia presided over the tonsure of two residents of the Holy Trinity convent.
On January 2, 2026, Metropolitan Varsonofiy of Vinnytsia and Bar performed a monastic tonsure at the Holy Trinity Brailiv Women’s Monastery of the Vinnytsia Eparchy. This was reported by the eparchy’s press service.
During the divine service, prayers were offered together with the hierarch by the secretary of the Vinnytsia Eparchy, Archimandrite Enoch (Torak), the head of the chancery, Hieromonk Filaret (Olivinskyi), and the abbess of the monastery, Abbess Antonia (Stetsenko). Also taking part in prayer were the sisters of the monastery, parishioners, and pilgrims.
Two residents of the monastery received the tonsure into the lesser schema: Nun Serhiya (Vinyar), who in tonsure was given the name Spiridon – in honor of St. Spyridon of Trimythous, and Nun Siluana (Malyovana), who received the new name Michael – in honor of the Archangel Michael, the Commander of the Heavenly Hosts.
Metropolitan Varsonofiy emphasized the importance of the monastic calling and the responsibility of complete service to the Lord, which they took upon themselves on that day. The hierarch wished the newly tonsured nuns spiritual steadfastness, firmness in faith, and God’s help in walking the monastic path.
As the UOJ previously reported, a monastic tonsure was performed at the women’s skete in the village of Velyka Uholka.
