Festive services and a solemn assembly were held in honor of the anniversary of the Odesa Theological School.
Metropolitan Agafangel of Odesa and Izmail led the festive celebrations in Odesa on December 12–13 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the revival of the Theological Seminary. This was reported by the ODS press service.
The event began with an akathist hymn to the Apostle Andrew the First-Called, the heavenly patron of the seminary, led by Bishop Anastasy of Ovidiopol. Then the rector of the theological educational institution, Archpriest Dimitry Yakovenko, performed a memorial service for the deceased rectors, teachers, and students at the brotherly cemetery of the Dormition Monastery.
The main service took place in the cathedral Church of the "Life-Giving Spring" icon of the Mother of God officiated by Metropolitan Agafangel. The archpastor was co-served by vicar bishops, clergy, and seminary teachers. During the all-night vigil, the bishop performed the rite of tonsure into readers over the fourth-year graduates.
The concluding part of the celebration was a solemn meeting in the seminary's assembly hall. Metropolitan Agafangel addressed the teachers and students with words of gratitude for their faithfulness to the Church and dedication to spiritual service. Congratulations were voiced by clergy and guests, who emphasized the role of theological education in the life of the faithful of the Odesa Eparchy.
