19th-century synagogue in Chernivtsi set on fire
An intentional arson attack was carried out at the Sadgora Synagogue in the Chernivtsi region; no one was injured, and a suspect has been detained.
On November 27, 2025, a fire broke out in the Sadgora Synagogue in Chernivtsi. There were no casualties, but the building sustained damage, RegioNews reported.
Israel’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Michael Brodsky, clarified that the fire was the result of intentional arson. He noted that while no lives were in danger, the interior of the synagogue was affected.
Law enforcement quickly detained a suspect who, according to preliminary information, shows signs of mental illness.
The Sadgora Synagogue, founded in the 19th century, is one of the oldest Jewish sacred sites in Chernivtsi, located in the historic neighborhood of Sadgora.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Verkhovna Rada voiced concern over combating antisemitism.
