Celebrations in honor of Saint Alexander Nevsky held in Bulgaria

In Bulgaria, on November 23, 2025, celebrations were held in honor of Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky – the heavenly patron of the Patriarchal Cathedral in Sofia.

The festive Patriarchal and Synodal liturgy on this day was led by the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Daniel.

In his sermon, the Patriarch emphasized that Saint Alexander Nevsky welcomes everyone who comes to pray, regardless of nationality.

"He does not divide people into Bulgarians and foreigners. Everyone who turns to him with sincere faith receives his prayerful support," noted the Primate.

Patriarch Daniel also spoke about the spiritual feats of the saint and drew attention to the challenges of modernity. According to him, the world is experiencing a "politically confusing time", when many traditional values – especially the values of faith – are being questioned.

Speaking about the day's Gospel reading, the Patriarch reminded the present that the pursuit of wealth for the sake of wealth always leads a person into a spiritual dead end. "The Lord Jesus Christ exposes such logic as meaningless," he said.

Patriarch Daniel emphasized that in the Kingdom of God there are no national divisions: "Saint Alexander Nevsky has ascended to the Kingdom of Christ, where earthly prejudices do not penetrate. He stands before the Throne of God and prays for all who turn to him with faith."

After the liturgy in front of the cathedral, the Patriarch blessed the students of the 3rd Primary School "Dimitar Talev" from Blagoevgrad, spoke with them, and urged the children to always participate in church life and turn to God in prayer.
