Supreme Court admits DESS appeal on liquidation of Korets Monastery
The State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) appealed the first-instance court’s refusal and succeeded in having an appellate proceeding opened in the case concerning the liquidation of the Korets Monastery.
On 24 November 2025, the Supreme Court of Ukraine opened appellate proceedings in the case seeking the termination of the Korets Holy Trinity Women’s Monastery, filed by the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS).
Case No. 855/14/25 (proceeding No. A/990/17/25) concerns DESS’s appellate complaint submitted on 19 November, after the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal on 6 November refused to apply interim measures requested by the agency, including blocking the monastery’s assets. In its new appeal, DESS seeks the application of interim measures and the subsequent liquidation of the religious organization.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Supreme Court had opened appellate proceedings in a complaint filed by the UOC against DESS.
