UGCC head urged to defrock cleric who committed fatal traffic accident
The family of the person who died in a car accident in Truskavets demanded that Shevchuk defrock the priest who, according to the investigation, was under the influence of alcohol.
The relatives of Ivan Revych, who died on November 3 in a fatal traffic accident, appealed to the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk with a demand to defrock the rector of the Dormition Church in the village of Stebnyk, Volodymyr Luzhetskyi, who was driving the car that hit Revych. According to the investigation, he was in a state of alcohol intoxication.
On November 4, the Truskavets court chose a preventive measure for the priest in the form of detention for 60 days until January 2, 2026. However, he can be released if he posts bail in the amount of 242,240 hryvnias.
The Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy of the UGCC stated that Luzhetskyi is prohibited from publicly conducting services during the investigative actions.
"We appealed to the Sambir-Drohobych Eparchy and to His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, the head of the UGCC, with a request to defrock this clergyman," the appeal of the deceased's family states.
There is no information on Shevchuk's reaction to the appeal.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the UGCC showed a censer made from a grenade.
